DARTS star Luke Humphries engaged in a rather heated discussion with snooker legend Shaun Murphy following his assertion that achieving a nine-darter is more challenging than scoring a 147 maximum break.
Humphries and Murphy were both featured among the athletes in Paddy Power’s Perfect Challenge.
Two darts competitors, two snooker players, and two golf athletes convened to resolve a long-debated question: which achievement is the most difficult—scoring a hole-in-one, making a 147 break, or hitting a nine-darter?
According to reigning world darts champion Humphries, for a beginner, accomplishing a 147 would be the most daunting task.
Nonetheless, he insisted that for an experienced player, executing a nine-darter is the greater challenge.
The world No. 1 reasoned: “If you hand someone a set of darts, a snooker cue, and a golf club, I believe they’d most likely achieve a hole-in-one first, then a nine-darter, and lastly, the 147. That’s the hardest of them all.”
“However, a professional player knows all the techniques in snooker.”
Murphy, a former world snooker champion, chuckled before replying, “I had no idea you were a comedian. A 147 is more challenging than a nine-darter.”
Humphries shot back, “What’s amusing about that? Did you listen to what I said? I pointed out that as a professional, being aware of the angles makes it seem manageable.”
“In terms of games played, more people complete 147s than those who hit nine-darters.”

Murphy countered, “Well, that doesn’t mean it’s easier.”
The awkward interaction wrapped up with Humphries quickly responding, “I never claimed it was easier.”
