Since December 1, Bitcoin has experienced a notable increase in inflows to centralized exchanges, signaling a possible selloff.
Data from IntoTheBlock reveals that the Bitcoin (BTC) exchange net flows escalated from a net outflow of $69 million to a net inflow of $326 million. On December 3, the leading cryptocurrency achieved a net inflow of $230 million.
Overall, more than $562 million in Bitcoin has flowed into centralized exchanges, as indicated by ITB data.
Additionally, the large holder-to-exchange net flow ratio for Bitcoin climbed to 0.86% on Tuesday, according to ITB data. This metric implies that Bitcoin whales have been more active than individual retail investors.
Analytics show that significant Bitcoin transactions, valued at $100,000 or more, rose from 17,960 to 25,830 during the same period as the exchange net flows.
The volume of large transactions increased from $38.7 billion to $87.3 billion in BTC on Monday, December 2. In the past week, Bitcoin has seen a total of $169.6 billion in whale transactions, per ITB data.
On-chain data indicates that a whale address, active for 11 years and holding 2,700 BTC (worth over $257 million), transferred this Bitcoin for the first time since December 2013, potentially signaling a selloff due to the 157-fold return.
This whale acquired the Bitcoins when the price was approximately $625, totaling an investment of $1.68 million.
Currently, Bitcoin is trading at $96,500, reflecting a 1% increase over the past 24 hours, with its market capitalization again exceeding $1.9 trillion.
The rising exchange inflows may instill FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) among retail investors. However, a surge in whale accumulation might alter market sentiment and encourage buying pressure.
Looking ahead, the next significant bullish driver for Bitcoin and altcoins could be a potential interest rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve — the FOMC meeting is scheduled for December 17 and 18.
