DA Commits to Holding Former Justice Minister Accountable After Cabinet Reshuffle

The Democratic Alliance (DA) remains steadfast in its pursuit of accountability from former Justice Minister Thembi Simelane concerning her alleged involvement in the VBS Mutual Bank scandal, despite her recent cabinet position change.

In the latest cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa, Simelane has been assigned to the Ministry of Human Settlements, with Mmamoloko Kubayi stepping in as the new Justice Minister.

DA Spokesperson Adv. Glynnis Breytenbach voiced her concerns regarding this move, criticizing the ongoing scrutiny faced by Simelane and describing her retention in the cabinet as a slight to the intelligence of South Africans.

“Minister Simelane has been under investigation for the last five months. It has taken the president five months to reach this conclusion; only the Almighty knows the rationale behind it.

“Now, instead of removing her in light of clear evidence of serious conflicts and compromises, he merely relocates her to another ministry while keeping her in the cabinet—a choice that ought to be reevaluated until all matters are settled.

This simple lateral move is nothing less than an insult to the intellect of every South African,” Breytenbach asserted.
