Pietermaritzburg – A devastating multi-vehicle collision involving trucks and a bus took place on the N3 North Bound near Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, claiming two lives and resulting in numerous injuries.
The tragic event occurred around 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Upon arrival, ALS Paramedics discovered two trucks and a fully loaded bus involved in a rear-end collision on the national highway.
“The vehicles caught fire upon impact,” reported Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, late Thursday.
“The Pietermaritzburg Fire Department was dispatched to douse the flames while Paramedics assessed and treated multiple victims.”
“Preliminary reports indicate that both the bus driver and the truck driver have passed away from their injuries as a result of the accident.”
“Approximately 20 individuals were treated at the site for various injuries by several ambulances before being transported to various hospitals in Pietermaritzburg for additional care.”
The road will remain closed while emergency responders continue to clear the scene.
Currently, the circumstances leading to the accident are unknown; however, all relevant authorities are at the scene and will be conducting an investigation.
