Rules and Format of the Snooker Shoot Out 2024
The Snooker Shoot Out features a distinctive format that tests players against the clock.
Every match is capped at a maximum of 10 minutes, with a 15-second shot clock during the first half and a 10-second shot clock in the latter half.
Key rules include:
- Frames are restricted to a maximum time of 10 minutes.
- The shot clock encourages players to stay active.
- During the first five minutes, players have 15 seconds for each shot.
- In the second half, players are limited to 10 seconds per shot.
- A penalty of five points (or the equivalent of the pink or black if attempted) is applied for not taking a shot within the time limit.
- Each shot must either hit a cushion or pot a ball.
- Non-compliance leads to the ball being awarded to the opposing player.
- Players “lag” for the opening break by striking the white ball from the baulk line against the top cushion.
- The winner of the lag is the player who gets closest to the baulk cushion.
- A shoot-out with the blue ball determines tied matches, requiring players to pot the blue from its spot to a top pocket.
- Flukes do not count on the final blue.
