Durban City Surpasses Milford as Spurs Endure Ongoing Winless Streak

Durban City has secured the top position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings following a dominant 3-0 win against Leruma United, highlighted by a brace from Samkelo Maseko and a goal from Saziso Magawana at Chatsworth Stadium this past Saturday.

In other developments, Milford FC has slipped to fourth place after a 1-1 stalemate with Black Leopards at Thohoyandou Stadium, which enabled promotion hopefuls Lidoda Duvha to remain in fifth.

The KZN teams are preparing for a crucial top-of-the-table clash on Sunday, 14 December, as the battle for the second-tier title intensifies. JDR Stars moved up to second place after a narrow 1-0 victory over Hungry Lions at Soshanguve Giant Stadium.

In mid-table action, newly promoted Kruger United maintained their unbeaten streak, extending it to six matches with a 3-1 away win over Upington City, elevating them three spots to seventh, while Upington dropped to 11th after a seven-match winless stretch.

On a more challenging note, the University of Pretoria faced a setback in their promotion chase, losing 1-0 to Casric Stars at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, leaving them eight points adrift of the leaders. At the bottom of the table, Venda FC continues to struggle in last place as they fight to avoid relegation.

The Vhembe-based side suffered a 4-2 defeat to Baroka FC at Global Stadium. Pretoria Callies had their hopes for a comeback thwarted by Lethabo Modimoeng, who netted in stoppage time to secure a 3-2 win for Orbit College at TUT Stadium on Sunday afternoon, leaving Callies positioned 13th with 13 points.

Struggling to recover from relegation woes, Cape Town Spurs have yet to claim a league victory in their last nine matches, with their most recent defeat being a 1-0 loss to newcomers Highbury FC.

The Urban Warriors find themselves in a precarious 14th position, sharing 10 points with 15th-placed Leruma and slightly ahead of Venda FC, as they gear up for a looming relegation fight against Callies in their next match on Friday, 13 December.
