Paraguayan Drug Mule Arrested Upon Arrival at OR Tambo Airport from Brazil

Johannesburg – Authorities have taken into custody a 43-year-old woman from Paraguay at OR Tambo International Airport, marking the fourth drug trafficking arrest in just two weeks.

The suspect arrived from São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, December 6, 2024, when she was intercepted while trying to smuggle narcotics.

As reported by police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, “The drug mule was transported to a nearby hospital where a medical X-ray revealed foreign objects in her stomach.”

“Ultimately, 33 drug pellets containing cocaine were removed.”

“This arrest represents the fourth occasion a drug trafficker has been caught at OR Tambo International Airport within the past two weeks.”
