A mother’s heart-wrenching search for her missing daughter concluded in tragedy when she discovered that her child had been killed.
Fundiswa Masa, 45, was at her job last Wednesday when her 24-year-old daughter, Thina, went missing. Masa, who works night shifts, only realized by Friday morning that Thina had not come home.

“I last saw her on Wednesday before heading to work. When I returned Thursday morning, I found the door ajar, and the security gate unlocked,” Masa detailed.
Initially, she assumed Thina might have been visiting a neighbor and went to sleep. By Friday, her growing concerns prompted her to reach out to friends and Thina’s boyfriend, but nobody had seen her since Tuesday.
The Disturbing Discovery
After Masa reported Thina missing to the authorities, an unsettling revelation emerged. “The detective asked me to describe my daughter and mentioned a woman’s body found in a ditch,” she reflected. Although Masa had seen a post about the discovery on Facebook, she had dismissed it as unrelated based on the differing initial descriptions.
When the detective showed her items recovered with the victim, Masa’s worst fears were confirmed. “He presented her cerise pink dress and shoes. I recognized them as belonging to my daughter,” she shared, noting that the officer had shielded her from viewing the victim’s injuries.
Police Inquiry and Arrest
According to Sergeant Wesley Twigg, the body was discovered in a ditch in Asanda Village, Cape Town, on Thursday evening by a passerby. A 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder.
“The victim’s body was located by a member of the public who alerted the police. The details surrounding her death are being investigated,” Twigg noted.

The suspect, who appeared in the Strand Magistrates Court on Monday, is unknown to the family. “I don’t recognize him. He looks like a thug,” Masa expressed, noting that the suspect claimed to be homeless.
Fundiswa Masa is now left grappling with the unbearable loss of her daughter. “She was so young and didn’t deserve this,” Masa said, her voice heavy with grief.
Police investigations are still ongoing as the community mourns yet another life lost to violence.
