Durban – The tragic death of one individual, who was traveling with others, occurred when their vehicle lost control on the slippery M13, struck a bridge, and fell several meters below, darkening the festive season.
This unusual incident took place around noon on Friday, (13 December 2024).
“ALS Paramedics are presently at the site of a fatal single-vehicle accident on the M13, near the Polo Pony offramp in the Shongweni area, west of Durban,” said spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
“Initial reports indicate that the vehicle lost control due to the wet conditions, swerving between the bridges and plummeting significant distance below.”
“Rescue teams are actively working to extricate those trapped in the wreckage; however, one fatality has been confirmed.”
Three people were in the vehicle at the time.
The victim, a passenger in his 20s, suffered severe injuries and could not be revived.
Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
The remaining two occupants were stabilized on-site before being taken to a medical facility for further treatment.
