Durban – A heartbreaking multi-vehicle collision took place on Old Dutch Road in Durban on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the fatalities of two pedestrians.
According to ALS Paramedics Medical Services, the accident, which involved five vehicles, occurred shortly after 12:30 at an intersection.
Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that when paramedics arrived, they found that “five vehicles had collided at the intersection, causing several to veer off the roadway and strike pedestrians.”
Jamieson added: “Paramedics swiftly requested additional assistance to handle the mass casualty scenario.
“Employing a triage system, they assessed that two male pedestrians had been struck while on the sidewalk.
“Sadly, one of the victims, a male in his 30s, sustained critical injuries, and paramedics were unable to revive him; he was declared dead at the scene.”
Jamieson indicated that a second male pedestrian, thought to be in his 40s, sustained critical injuries and was placed on a manual ventilator by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being hurried to a nearby specialized facility, but tragically, he also succumbed to his injuries.
At least five other individuals from the involved vehicles received on-site treatment from ALS Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital in Durban.
The details leading up to the accident remain unclear at this moment.
