Good evening and welcome to SunSport’s live coverage of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year!
This esteemed event is happening at BBC Sport’s headquarters in MediaCity, Salford.
Keely Hodgkinson is emerging as the leading contender for the prestigious award following her remarkable achievements in the 800m event.
This Team GB athlete clinched a gold medal in the 800m at the Paris Olympics earlier this year.
The Atherton native also secured the European title in Rome, just two months prior to her competition in France.
Hodgkinson established a new British national record, making her the sixth fastest woman in history.
Another notable contender for Sports Personality of the Year is teenage darts prodigy Luke Littler, who finished as the runner-up at the World Darts Championship in January, thrusting him into the spotlight as one of the sport’s elite.
Since his impressive performance at Alexandra Palace, Littler has secured ten PDC titles in his debut year in the professional circuit.
The 17-year-old aspires to become the youngest winner of this distinguished award in over sixty years. Additionally, England and Real Madrid football star Jude Bellingham is also among the nominees for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year accolade.
