Moscow – The public transportation network in Moscow is once again celebrating the festive season, with cheerful decorations illuminating the metro and tram lines across the city.
Continuing a cherished tradition that spans over five decades, the Moscow metro has launched a special New Year’s train on Line 5.
This themed train is decorated with more than 700 three-dimensional ornaments, showcasing snowmen, Christmas trees, snowflakes, and holiday decorations, turning each carriage into a winter wonderland.
This initiative is part of the city’s preparations for the New Year celebrations in Moscow.
Under the leadership of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, the metro system has rolled out trains adorned with holiday decorations.
This year, a Winter train, featuring symbols of the forthcoming holiday season, has been introduced on the Circular Line.
“We believe it will bring joy to our passengers. The festive train will be in operation until January 31, 2025,” stated Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
In addition to the metro festivities, 60 Vityaz-Moscow trams have been carefully decorated with sparkling lights and garlands to celebrate the New Year.
This represents a significant increase, as the number of decorated trams has doubled since last year.
Deputy Mayor Liksutov commented: “New Year’s trams have become a beloved tradition in our city.
“Following the initiative of Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we are once again fostering a festive atmosphere for the residents and visitors of Moscow.”
With 60 beautifully decorated trams, a new milestone has been achieved.
These illuminated trams can be seen on 28 different routes across the city.
To further enhance the festive spirit, eight metro station facades and stations on the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) in the city center have been beautifully adorned with decorations, and the Two Hearts of the Capital installations have been placed next to nine station entrances.
