Johannesburg – Authorities detained two individuals at OR Tambo International Airport shortly after they arrived in South Africa from a flight originating in Brazil. One suspect was found with 4 kg of cocaine in their luggage, while the other was revealed via X-ray to have ingested pellets of the drug.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk confirmed that the suspected drug traffickers were arrested on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk noted: “These Brazilian drug mules, aged 30 and 35, had just landed from São Paulo, Brazil when they were apprehended at the airport.
“One suspect was found with over 4kg of cocaine in his luggage, while a medical X-ray revealed the presence of drug ‘bullets’ that the other mule had ingested.
“A total of fifteen ‘bullets’ containing cocaine have been retrieved.”

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court later this week on charges related to drug trafficking.
Alert airport officers have successfully apprehended multiple drug traffickers in recent weeks.
