Ronwen Williams Excels at the 2024 CAF Awards

Ronwen Williams, the standout goalkeeper from South Africa, was the only athlete to win two awards at the esteemed 2024 CAF Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco.

He claimed both the Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year and the Men’s Interclub Player of the Year honors.

Williams’ exceptional penalty saves during the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast this past year have cemented his legacy in football history.

At 32 years of age, he guided the South African team to a bronze medal and played a crucial role in helping his club, Mamelodi Sundowns, secure their seventh consecutive league title.

The evening’s other notable awardees included Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman and Zambia’s Barbra Banda.

Lookman, who shone with Atalanta and Nigeria’s Super Eagles, received the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.

Banda, who was honored as the Women’s Player of the Year, thrived in the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League in the United States, leading the Orlando Pride to win the NWSL Shield and Championship title.

Significantly, she scored a hat-trick for Zambia at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking her third hat-trick in Olympic football history.
