IFP Councillor Prince Ndabuko Zulu Resigns as Mayor of AmaJuba District Municipality

Durban – Prince Ndabuko Zulu has officially stepped down from his role as mayor of the AmaJuba District Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal.

On Thursday, December 19, 2024, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) announced that the mayor had agreed to resign.

“The IFP NEC convened today with the Mayor of AmaJuba District Municipality, Cllr. Prince Ndabuko Zulu,” stated the party’s announcement by national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa.

“Following discussions, the NEC decided to request the immediate resignation of the mayor.

“Consequently, Prince Ndabuko Zulu has submitted his resignation from the position of mayor.

“This decision was made in the best interests of the AmaJuba District.”

When The Bulrushes sought clarification on the motives behind Prince Zulu’s resignation, the IFP referred back to their statement, which did not specify any details.

However, earlier news reports suggested that the mayor was under investigation for possible misconduct regarding a contract for constructing a reinforced concrete reservoir.

The IFP expressed gratitude to Cllr. Prince Ndabuko Zulu for his dedication and leadership during his tenure.

Following Prince Ndabuko Zulu’s resignation, Deputy Mayor Thembelihle Mthembu will take over as acting mayor until further notice.

“The party’s relevant committees will manage the process of filling the mayoral vacancy,” the IFP added.

In the meantime, the municipality has reassured residents that the resignation of the mayor will not affect service delivery.
