Durban – A man in his 50s tragically passed away in a swimming pool situated in the Amanzimtoti area, south of Durban.
“Shortly after 7 pm on Sunday evening, ALS Paramedics were summoned to another drowning incident on MacDonald Road in Kingsburgh, south of Durban,” remarked spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
“Upon their arrival, paramedics found the lifeless body of a man thought to be in his 50s, discovered near a private swimming pool.”
“Unfortunately, there was nothing that could be done for him, and he was declared dead at the scene.”
Police were on the scene and will carry out a further investigation.
“This marks the second drowning incident ALS Paramedics have responded to today,” Jamieson stated with sadness.
Jamieson detailed that in an earlier incident on Sunday afternoon just before 2:30 pm, ALS Paramedics attended to a near-drowning case at a local beach in Doonside, not far from Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.
“Paramedics arrived to find a woman, believed to be in her twenties, receiving help from local lifeguards,” Jamieson recounted.
“Advanced Life Support Paramedics took over her care, stabilizing her at the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital for further treatment.”
“It is reported that the woman was swimming when she encountered difficulties and was assisted by lifeguards.”
Jamieson further urged: “We encourage people to exercise caution while swimming and to refrain from swimming under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
