SEAN DYCHE has announced that Ashley Young “sustained a neck injury” during the match against Chelsea.
The seasoned full-back, aged 39, will be unavailable for the Boxing Day clash against Man City due to a suspension.
The former England international received his fifth yellow card during the drawn match against Chelsea and will now face a one-match suspension.
He was taken off with 15 minutes remaining, paving the way for club captain Seamus Coleman.
Dyche further explained that Young’s condition is also a concern for the next match at the Etihad, as he was substituted partly due to his injury.
Dyche commented: “Youngy is suspended, but he did injure his neck, although he made a fantastic header at the far post.”
“We had to substitute him for both reasons – to make sure he was physically okay and because he was on a yellow card.”
Both Young and his 18-year-old son Tyler, who plays for Peterborough United, are hopeful that the injury isn’t severe.
This is particularly important as Everton will face the League One team in the FA Cup on January 9, which could see a father-son matchup.
Despite his age, Young continues to play a vital role for Everton, having already made 14 Premier League appearances this season.

In other Everton updates, The Friedkin Group (TFG) has successfully finalized its majority takeover of the club, with the deal rumored to exceed £400m.
Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, a branch of The Friedkin Group, has acquired Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 percent stake in the team.
The group reached an agreement with Moshiri on September 23 and awaited regulatory approval, which the Premier League has now granted.
