Former UFC fighter Mateus Mendonca was quickly taken to the hospital after suffering a fractured penis during a training session.
The injury occurred while grappling and is expected to sideline Mendonca for about two months.
In an interview with MMAFighting, he shared: “I was training with a teammate when his knee hit my penis; the pain was excruciating, so I went to the bathroom.”
“Recently, while in Sao Paulo, I felt something was wrong; there was an obvious lump.”
“My girlfriend insisted I go to the hospital, where an ultrasound was performed and I was directed to another facility for emergency surgery.”
Mendonca is currently auctioning off some of his previous UFC memorabilia to help cover expenses during his recovery while he is unable to fight or coach.
He added: “The doctor has advised me to refrain from training or teaching for the next two months.”
“I have to stay at home and avoid all activities. I cannot train or teach, so I am raffling off my gear to earn some income.”
“I have a young daughter, and I relocated my family to Sao Paulo to start training.”
The Brazilian fighter holds an 11-3 record and has fought three bouts in the UFC.
