Hawks Officer Charged with Killing His Wife Will Spend Christmas Behind Bars

Stellenbosch – A Hawks warrant officer suspected of fatally shooting his wife will spend Christmas in custody following the adjournment of his case.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) reported that the accused, who remains unnamed, made his first court appearance today, December 23, 2024, at the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court.

It is claimed that the Hawks warrant officer shot and killed his spouse during a domestic dispute on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

According to IPID, “the couple was engaged in an argument at their home in Khayamnandi, Stellenbosch.”

“The wife fled to a neighbor’s yard, but the accused followed her and fired shots as she entered the adjacent house.”

“It is further alleged that he (the accused) continued shooting at her as he entered the home, with neighbors witnessing the ordeal.”

IPID confirmed that the wife succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. The accused Hawks officer now faces a murder charge, as stated by IPID.

Authorities retrieved ten spent cartridges and two bullet casings from the site of the incident.

The accused officer is currently held at the Allandale Holding cells in Stellenbosch.

IPID announced that the case has been rescheduled to December 30, 2024, for bail consideration.
