Bloemfontein – The Free State Department of Health has marked the occasion of babies born on Christmas Day with great enthusiasm.
“We are thrilled to announce that by 08:00 on Christmas day, 24 babies were born in various health facilities across the Free State,” said Elke de Witt, the acting spokesperson for the Free State Department of Health.
“Babies born on Christmas Day hold special meaning during our holiday celebrations.”
De Witt noted that the maternity wards in the Free State reported the delivery of nine girls and 15 boys between 00:01 and 08:00 this morning.
The first baby to arrive on Christmas morning at Free State public hospitals was born at the National District Hospital in Bloemfontein at 00:15.
“Palesa Khatsi from Bloemfontein joyfully welcomed her son, Thandolwethu Kosana, who weighed 2.64 kg. Both mother and baby are in good health,” remarked De Witt.
The second delivery occurred at 00:30 at Dihlabeng Regional Hospital in Bethlehem.
Thembisile Ndaba from Senekal gave birth to her daughter, who weighed 1.890 kg.
Mpho Seretsi from Welkom welcomed her daughter at 00:33, who weighed 2.67 kg at the Bongani Regional Hospital, making her the third baby born that day.
“We expect that the number of births will increase as the day goes on,” De Witt added.
