MEC Duma shared the following updates:

  • A mobile team from the Department of Human Settlements at both the national and provincial levels will assess the damage and accelerate intervention efforts.
  • The verification process will commence tomorrow to ensure the needs of vulnerable households are prioritized.

The province is actively monitoring weather updates from the South African Weather Services.

“We commend the Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Nkadimeng, for setting up a satellite office in KZN and assigning a Disaster Management Team,” noted MEC Duma.

“This forward-thinking initiative will facilitate a collaborative approach among all three levels of government and ensure the rapid provision of emergency housing and other relief efforts.
