Durban – An early morning accident involving a minibus taxi on the N2 southbound, just before the Spaghetti Junction in eThekwini, KwaZulu-Natal, has led to the fatalities of two people.
Shortly before 6 am on Monday, (30 December 2024), ALS Paramedics Medical Services responded to reports of the minibus taxi crash on the N2 southbound, ahead of the Spaghetti Junction.
“Numerous victims were being assisted at the scene; sadly, two individuals were declared deceased on-site,” reported ALS Paramedics.
At least 21 passengers from the minibus taxi received medical assistance on location.
Just prior to 6 am today, ALS paramedics were activated to respond to a devastating minibus taxi incident on the N2 southbound, before the Spaghetti Junction.
Multiple ambulances and Advanced Life Support Paramedics were deployed to the site of the incident.
“Per the information from the initial caller, several individuals sustained injuries,” stated ALS Paramedics Medical Services Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson.
Upon arrival, paramedics found that a minibus taxi, carrying around 23 passengers, had lost control, crashed into a barrier, and overturned several times, throwing many passengers from their seats.
Jamieson mentioned that paramedics quickly requested extra resources and began a triage process.
Paramedics from various services attended to 21 patients with injuries ranging from moderate to critical before transporting them to different hospitals in Durban for additional care.
“Unfortunately, two males, believed to be in their 30s and 40s, suffered life-threatening injuries, and paramedics were unable to save them; they were pronounced dead at the scene,” added Jamieson.
“Currently, the N2 is obstructed in both directions as emergency personnel continue their operations, and this situation is anticipated to persist for a significant duration.
“At this time, the factors leading to the accident remain undetermined; however, all relevant authorities are on-site and will conduct a thorough investigation.”
