Johannesburg – A 42-year-old police officer from Eldorado Park, who fatally shot his Traffic Warden girlfriend, Chesnay Patricia Keppler, in the early hours of Boxing Day, remains in the hospital.

Due to his condition, the police sergeant, who reportedly shot himself before his arrest, was unable to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday, December 30, 2024.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), which investigates cases of death, rape, torture, and assault involving police personnel, announced that the officer’s case has been postponed until January 6, 2025.

IPID has confirmed that the officer’s identity is being kept confidential until he appears in court, and he is under police supervision during his hospitalization.

The suspect incurred injuries while attempting suicide before being taken into custody for the murder of his girlfriend.

IPID revealed that the police sergeant is accused of shooting the 22-year-old traffic warden through a kitchen window at her home in Eldorado Park and is expected to be well enough to attend court in January 2025.

Witnesses reported that they recorded the shooting on a cellphone, and this footage has been submitted to IPID.
