Brothers Arrested for the Murder of Durban Businessman in Umhlanga

In KwaZulu-Natal, authorities have detained two brothers in relation to the murder of 32-year-old entrepreneur Shailen Singh from Durban, who was tragically shot dead in Umhlanga on Sunday.

The arrests were made on New Year’s Day, with the suspects—a CEO of a security company and his sibling—being taken into custody by the provincial organized crime, murder, and robbery unit.

Incident on Meridian Drive

Singh was behind the wheel of a Toyota Hilux when he was attacked on Meridian Drive, sustaining gunshot wounds to his head, neck, and abdomen. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pradeep Singh, the father of the victim, expressed his grief and confusion concerning the motives behind his son’s murder, revealing that Shailen had previously received threats but did not recognize his attackers.

Family Devastated by Loss

The young businessman’s passing leaves behind a grieving wife and their two-month-old son.

Pradeep Singh remarked, “Excessive force was employed,” indicating the family’s immense sorrow over this incident.

Law enforcement has recovered two vehicles believed to have fled the scene of the murder. The suspects are scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

KZN police spokesperson Lt-Col Robert Netshiunda commended the swift actions of detectives in apprehending the suspects.
