Johannesburg – A 42-year-old police sergeant, who allegedly took his own life after murdering his 22-year-old girlfriend, Chesnay Patricia Keppler, has been discharged from the hospital. He is set to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The Eldorado Park police sergeant had been treated in the hospital since he shot himself just before his arrest over a week ago.
According to IPID, the independent body investigating cases of police-related deaths, rape, torture, and assault, “The accused police officer has been released from the hospital and is now in custody at Moroka Police Station.”
It is alleged that the sergeant shot the traffic warden through her kitchen window at her Eldorado Park residence on Boxing Day, December 26, 2024.

The brutal incident was witnessed by bystanders, and video evidence has been provided to IPID.
The sergeant, who shot himself prior to his arrest, was hospitalized under police watch.
The accused was unable to attend the Protea Magistrate’s Court on the previously scheduled date, Monday, December 30, 2024.
However, IPID has confirmed that he has now been discharged and is expected to appear in court.
