
As we bid farewell to 2024, I’m reflecting on some of the most impactful conversations I’ve had on FixSA.
These discussions, ranging from profound insights into ethical leadership and robust governance to exploring the entrepreneurial spirit in Johannesburg, highlighted the challenges and opportunities currently shaping South Africa.

In an episode titled “Lighting a fire under people’s bums is what’s needed in SA,” aired in March, Dr. Miriam Altman, a prominent South African economist and strategist, emphasized the pressing need for investing in human capability for national progress. Drawing on her experience with Telkom, she highlighted the importance of effective leadership and stable management in state-owned enterprises such as Eskom and Transnet. Altman advocated for performance-driven cultures and competitive procurement processes to enhance efficiency.

In a conversation titled “SA needs no-nonsense leadership,” released in August, former Harmony Gold CEO Bernard Swanepoel addressed the need for proactive strategies to confront South Africa’s challenges.
