LUKE LITTLER is enthusiastically anticipating the chance to don the England jersey with pride this summer as he aims to add the World Cup of Darts to his collection of trophies.
He has also challenged Luke Humphries, his fellow teammate, suggesting that he is determined to ascend to the top of the world rankings.
At just 17 years old, Littler has elevated himself to the second spot in the PDC Order of Merit after clinching his first world darts championship title, amassing £1,118,500 in prize money.
This amount does not include the additional earnings he secured from winning the Premier League (£315,000) or his victories in World Series events (£150,000).
Last year, Littler was just beginning his professional career and was not ranked high enough to qualify for the 40-nation World Cup—much to the surprise of many.
This year, he has been chosen to represent England and is preparing to form an all-Luke dream team in Frankfurt during the tournament from June 12-15.
Humphries, 29, and Michael Smith, 34, were crowned World Cup champions last summer, following in the footsteps of the legendary duo Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis, who have won the title four times.
A dedicated England fan, Littler passionately sported the Three Lions jersey when the previous manager Gareth Southgate’s squad reached the Euros 2024 final, where they faced a defeat to Spain in Berlin.
He expressed: “Last year, people didn’t realize the selection was based on rankings, and many were asking, ‘Why isn’t Luke Littler in the World Cup?’
“I had to explain: ‘Because I’ve just begun my journey.’
“Now, with the significant ranking money positively affecting my standings, I believe I’m quite competitive with Luke. I can hardly wait.”
Humphries is likely still coping with the aftermath of his unexpected 4-1 defeat in the fourth round to Peter Wright at Ally Pally, which led to him losing the Sid Waddell Trophy.
In 2025, Cool Hand Luke will need to defend the substantial prize money he garnered from previous victories and deep tournament runs, while Littler—now embarking on his second season as a pro—awaits his chance.

The young star from Warrington commented: “Naturally, the World No. 1 position could be within reach this year.
“Particularly if Luke Humphries struggles to maintain his prize money.
“However, if he secures victories this year and preserves his earnings, I will have to recognize his successes.”
