De Jong Poised to Disrupt Chiefs’ Grand Celebration

Stellenbosch FC forward Andre de Jong is keen to secure important points in their crucial Betway Premiership match against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium this Wednesday evening.

After his standout performance in the CAF Confederation Cup, the New Zealand international is confident that his team is ready to convert their continental achievements into domestic wins.

De Jong was instrumental in Stellenbosch’s CAF win over CD Lunda Sul on Sunday, netting two goals to keep their aspirations of progressing alive.

However, the striker emphasizes that the team has quickly redirected its attention to the upcoming challenge — a vital clash against AmaKhosi at the renowned FNB Stadium.

“The atmosphere within the squad is uplifting and encouraging. We’ve been together in Gauteng since Saturday, and I sense everyone is in a great spot, excited to conclude the week with a strong display against Kaizer Chiefs,” De Jong shared.

With Stellenbosch playing just one league match this January due to their CAF duties, De Jong highlighted the significance of claiming all three points.

“This match is critical for us, particularly considering the tightly contested league standings. Since it will be our sole league game this month because of CAF commitments, we must aim for maximum points,” he added.

Currently, Stellenbosch is positioned higher in the league compared to Kaizer Chiefs, who have been facing inconsistencies. Nonetheless, historical records indicate that the Chiefs have an advantage, having won four of their last five encounters with Stellenbosch.

Conversely, recent performances imply that the visitors may have what it takes to alter the narrative in their favor.

“Our focus has shifted to the upcoming game against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, and I believe we have gained momentum from our significant result over the weekend. We aim to carry our recent CAF form into the league,” De Jong remarked.

Stellenbosch’s latest performances have demonstrated resilience and effective attacking prowess, qualities they will need to display once more under the floodlights at FNB Stadium. Meanwhile, the Chiefs — despite their recent hurdles — will be eager to commemorate a significant milestone, as the club celebrates its 55th anniversary.
