Fans are stunned that Michael van Gerwen has been substituted by Peter Wright for the Bahrain Masters.
The PDC has chosen eight players to compete against eight stars from the Asian Circuit in Doha next week.
World Champion Luke Littler will participate in the event, alongside world No. 1 Luke Humphries.
Nevertheless, Van Gerwen will not be present due to family responsibilities.
A PDC statement revealed: “The newly crowned World Champion Littler and world number one Humphries are poised to lead the 2025 Bahrain Darts Masters next week, as the 16-player lineup is now complete.”
“Two-time World Champion Peter Wright fills the last spot in the eight-player PDC roster since Van Gerwen cannot take part due to family obligations.”
World No. 12 Wright has been selected to step in for Van Gerwen, despite having a less-than-impressive tour year.
Although Wright did not secure any titles, he managed to defeat Humphries on his way to the World Darts Championship quarter-finals.
However, some fans feel that Wright does not deserve this chance, insisting that Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker should have been selected instead, especially after being excluded from the Premier League roster.
One fan expressed: “What does Mike De Decker have to do to gain recognition? Score 140? Hit three consecutive 9-darters? He’s a major winner and deserves more respect than Peter Wright getting another shot…”

Another commented: “Is that really Peter Wright I see? In this day and age?”
A third person added: “So De Decker isn’t ready for the World Series either? Surely he should be next in line after the Premier players?”
