The Orlando Pirates have an opportunity to rise to the top of the Betway Premiership by overcoming Cape Town City at DHL Stadium on Wednesday (19:30).
Currently, the Pirates hold 27 points, just three behind the leaders Mamelodi Sundowns (30), although Sundowns have played one extra match. Both squads feature similar stats, with the Pirates netting 22 goals while conceding only four.
Assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has praised the new manager of Cape Town City, Muhsin Ertugral, highlighting his extensive experience and the fresh energy he brings to the team ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
City is now managed by the former Pirates head coach Ertugral, who took over from Eric Tinkler earlier this year.
Ertugral commenced his leadership with a bang, steering City to a win against Kaizer Chiefs—one of his former teams—at DHL Stadium on Sunday.
In contrast, City will face a Pirates team that is in formidable form, having just secured a 3-0 victory against Stade d’Abidjan in their recent CAF Champions League group stage match this past weekend.
The Pirates are further encouraged by their earlier 2-0 win over City in this season’s MTN8 second-leg semifinal at Orlando Stadium. The first leg at DHL Stadium ended in a 1-1 draw, setting the scene for an electrifying atmosphere in Cape Town for Wednesday’s match.
Despite their recent success, Ncikazi acknowledges that City’s squad under Ertugral will be a formidable opponent.
“This presents another opportunity for the team to gain points,” Ncikazi remarked.
“It won’t be an easy
