15 Men Found in Sandringham as Police Investigate Suspected Human Trafficking Ring

In a troubling discovery, authorities revealed a suspected human trafficking operation in Sandringham, Johannesburg, on Thursday evening, resulting in the rescue of 26 potential victims, among whom were 15 unclothed men thought to be from Ethiopia.

This joint operation was carried out by the Sandringham police, Gauteng Hawks, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), and a private security firm, following reports from residents about strange activities at a residence on Luster Road.

Escape and Rescue

Colonel Philani Nkwalase, spokesperson for the Hawks, confirmed that officers arrived to find 15 men in distressing conditions, discovered naked and confined. Eleven more victims were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggested that the captives had attempted to escape by breaking a window and removing burglar bars. Some victims were apprehended nearby, while others managed to flee the vicinity.

Three suspected traffickers were apprehended at the scene, with authorities also confiscating a firearm and a loaded magazine during the operation.

The case has been handed over to the Gauteng Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit for further scrutiny. The legal status and identities of the 26 undocumented individuals are currently under verification as trafficking victims.

Community Alert and Ongoing Investigation

Officials are urging the public to report any sightings of unclothed persons in the area, as they may still be linked to this case.

Law enforcement and the Hawks are dedicated to enhancing their efforts to dismantle such operations and ensure the protection of at-risk individuals.
