DARREN FERGUSON has responded to criticisms from an Everton player concerning his choice to omit Tyler Young from the matchday squad.
The son of Sir Alex Ferguson saw his team be eliminated from the FA Cup in their Thursday night matchup at Goodison Park.
Beto scored the opening goal for the Toffees in the first half, while Iliman Ndiaye sealed the win with a late penalty.
However, fans were eager to see Young, 18, step onto the pitch against his father and Everton defender Ashley Young, 39.
Tyler ultimately stayed on the bench, preventing a historical encounter from taking place.
In the entirety of the FA Cup’s history spanning 154 years, no father-son pair has faced each other on the field.
Following the loss, Ferguson stated that putting Tyler into the game wouldn’t have been advantageous for the team.
He revealed that an Everton player made a disrespectful comment regarding his decision not to include the young player.
He remarked, “It was indeed tough to leave Tyler on the bench, but I have to put the team’s best interests first.
“While I wanted Tyler to play, had it been 2-0 at that point, I’d have sent him on, but with it at 1-0, I had to opt for a forward instead.”

“I must do what I can to secure a positive outcome and assist my team.
“One of their players made an inappropriate remark to me.”
“We are not a charity case.”
The choice to leave Tyler out of the lineup was anticipated, given he had previously made just one professional appearance before this match.
His only experience came as a substitute in the EFL Trophy match against Stevenage last October.
Meanwhile, Sean Dyche was absent from coaching duties following his dismissal earlier that day.
In his place, Seamus Coleman and club legend Leighton Baines took charge of the game.
The two faced challenges, including an injury to Armando Broja, who was taken off on a stretcher after an unfortunate fall that visibly affected his well-being.
Speculation about Dyche’s successor has already surfaced, with names like former manager David Moyes and ex-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho being linked to the role.
