Mdunyelwa: Dedicated to Earning My Opportunity on the Field

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Zuko Mdunyelwa acknowledges the significant effort required to earn playing time with the Tshwane giants and is committed to making the most of every opportunity that comes his way.

Mdunyelwa, who transitioned to Sundowns from Chippa United in January of last year, has participated in just two league matches this season, both under the previous coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The 25-year-old also played in the CAF Champions League match against Mbabane Swallows. However, since Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso took charge, Mdunyelwa has yet to appear in a matchday squad.

The former Chippa right-back conveys his enthusiasm for seizing his chance when it arises. “There’s a process, and I have objectives to meet [to earn that opportunity],” Mdunyelwa commented.

“The technical team is helping me get back on track. I’m just waiting for my moment, and I’m hopeful that when it arrives, I will seize it completely,” Mdunyelwa expressed.

Mdunyelwa remained in South Africa as the team traveled to Congo for their Champions League match against AS Maniema Union at Stade des Martyrs on Saturday (15:00), during the absence of Bathusi Aubaas and Khuliso Mudau.

Currently, Sundowns holds the second position in Group B of the Champions League and is leading in the Betway Premiership.

Mdunyelwa is confident that the Brazilians will claim the top spot in the Champions League, but he recognizes that the league is still in its infancy, given its lengthy duration.

“It’s still early in the Champions League, but I’m confident we will emerge victorious,” Mdunyelwa noted.

“We promise to exert our utmost effort, and we will move forward from there. Regarding the league, it feels like a marathon; simply being at the top is not the sole aim.

“While we are currently in the lead, our objective is to sustain that position from now until the season ends, even though it might be challenging. I believe we can tackle it one game at a time until the season’s conclusion.”
