Tragic Mpumalanga Tavern Shooting: Death Toll Rises to 8 as Hospitalized Victims Pass Away

Pienaar – Two people have succumbed to gunshot wounds in the hospital, raising the total death toll from the horrific Saturday morning tavern shooting in Pienaar to eight.

Six victims lost their lives instantly when gunmen opened fire at the venue during the early hours in Mpumalanga.

Many others were injured and taken to the hospital.

One patient has been discharged, while two remain hospitalized.

As per Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, officers discovered vehicles with bullet damage at the scene.

“Two VW Polo vehicles were found at the location with bullet holes, and one of the deceased was located inside one of the cars,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane noted.

“The motive for the shooting remains unclear at this time, and details about the incident are presently under investigation.”

Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane indicated that no arrests have been made yet, but a specialized team is in place to investigate the deadly shooting.

Mpumalanga Acting Police Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi expressed his concern, stating: “We are greatly alarmed by the recent shooting incidents in our province, but we are diligently working to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.”

Mpumalanga Health MEC Sasekani Manzini commented: “The department will continue to monitor the recovery of the two patients still under care.

“Initially, five patients were admitted, one of whom died upon arrival, and another passed away hours later.

“One is in the Intensive Care Unit, while another is in stable condition. Only one patient has been released from the hospital.”
