A shooting incident early Saturday morning led to the tragic deaths of eight people, with three others receiving medical care in a hospital, prompting an extensive police manhunt.
Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, spokesperson for the provincial police, confirmed this devastating incident, revealing that six victims died at the scene and two others succumbed to their injuries later at the hospital. One of the deceased was found inside a bullet-ridden VW Polo, while another Polo at the location displayed clear evidence of gunfire.

“We have formed a specialized team to investigate the specifics of the shooting,” Mdhluli remarked. He mentioned that although no arrests have been made so far, efforts to locate the armed gang involved are ongoing.
Authorities are appealing to the public for information, encouraging anyone with knowledge to reach out via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or report through the MYSAPSAPP. “All information will remain confidential, and callers have the option to stay anonymous,” Mdhluli emphasized.
Condemnation and Sympathies
This incident has sparked strong condemnation from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison. MEC Jackie Macie described the situation as extremely concerning and urged for immediate action.
“We call on the community to allow police the necessary space and time to carry out their investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. Liquor vendors must prioritize the safety of their clientele,” Macie stressed.

The MEC extended her condolences to the families of the victims and wished a quick recovery to those injured.
