Tragic Shooting at Mpumalanga Tavern Leaves Six Dead and Numerous Injured

Pienaar – Tragically, six people have lost their lives, and several others have been injured following a shooting at a liquor store in Pienaar, located near Mbombela (formerly known as Nelspruit), Mpumalanga.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police, the deadly shooting incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 11, 2025.

“The shooting took place in Pienaar, just outside Nelspruit, during the early hours at around 04:00,” reported Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane.

“We are currently conducting an investigation, as it seems that approximately six individuals were shot fatally at the location, and we will provide further details and circumstances regarding this incident as they become available.”

The victims consist of five males and one female.

“An unverified number of individuals have also been injured and have been taken to the hospital,” Lieutenant Colonel Ndubane added.

At this moment, the motive behind the shooting is not yet known.

No arrests have been made thus far.

In light of this tragic shooting, the African Transformation Movement (ATM) has called for a thorough investigation, swift arrests, and prosecution.

“This horrific incident highlights the urgent need for enhanced safety measures in our communities and necessitates decisive action against those who carry out such terrible acts,” stated the ATM.

In response to this tragedy, the ATM extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims.

“We recognize the deep pain inflicted by this senseless act of violence and stand in solidarity with the grieving families during this incredibly challenging time.”
