Lamontville Golden Arrows have sent young forward Samkelo Mlaba on loan to Hungry Lions, who play in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, for the remainder of the season.
The 21-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for Arrows but is anticipated to gain vital playing time with the Kimberly-based team. Arrows consider Mlaba a valuable asset, especially as he leads their DStv Diski Challenge squad.
With a strong roster in the attacking department, Mlaba has had limited chances in the first team. This loan opportunity will allow him to gain essential match experience.
Recently, Arrows and Hungry Lions have formed a mutually beneficial partnership. The Durban club has previously acquired players such as Olwethu Ncube and Angelo van Rooi from Hungry Lions at the beginning of last season.
As Mlaba leaves Arrows, the team is enjoying a successful campaign, currently sitting in fifth place in the Betway Premiership with 18 points from 12 matches. In contrast, Hungry Lions are in 10th position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 19 points from 15 games.
Mlaba may make his debut for Hungry Lions this Sunday against Baroka FC at the Global Stadium at 15:30, assuming all required formalities are completed.
