MANCHESTER UNITED has all but secured automatic progression to the knockout stage of the Europa League following a nail-biting victory over Rangers.
The Red Devils welcomed the Scottish team to Old Trafford in the second-to-last group game of their European journey.
This victory moves the Red Devils closer to solidifying their position in the top eight, as they triumphed 2-1 at Old Trafford.
A blunder by Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland in the second half broke the deadlock.
Cyriel Dessers appeared to equalize for the visitors with a goal in the 88th minute, only for Bruno Fernandes to crush the hopes of the away fans.
SunSport’s Ken Lawrence was present to witness this incredible match, ready to analyze and review the performances of Ruben Amorim‘s side.
Altay Bayindir – 7
The Turkish goalkeeper outperformed No. 1 Andre Onana, showcasing solid corner handling.
He faced a challenging collision with Toby Collyer, demonstrating his resilience.
Leny Yoro – 5
The £52M center-back operated on the right side of Ruben Amorim’s three-man defense.
Although he displayed some inconsistency, he showed improvement when in possession.
Matthijs de Ligt – 4
A poor early touch left Toby Collyer in a difficult position – Nicolas Raskin had an even worse touch that bailed him out.
He was substituted at halftime, which wasn’t particularly surprising.
Lisandro Martinez – 5
Previously known as The Butcher of Amsterdam, he seems to have lost that intimidating presence.
He appears uneasy with the new system.
Amad Diallo – 7
He has evolved since his challenging loan spell at Rangers three years ago.
While not quite back to his wonder-boy form, he still poses a threat.
Toby Collyer – 6
Made his European debut and performed commendably.
This 21-year-old is a promising emerging talent in midfield.
Christian Eriksen – 6
As he approaches 33 next month, his legs are no longer suited for center midfield duties.
He has always been a creator and put in a solid effort.
Diogo Dalot – 5
Started off poorly as a left wing-back.
He showcased a significantly better performance after shifting positions midway through the second half.
Bruno Fernandes – 9
It makes one wonder if he gets as frustrated with himself as he does with his manager at times. Still, he netted a superb winning goal.
Joshua Zirkzee – 4
Ruben, he is NOT a center forward.
Whatever £36M bought, it certainly wasn’t a natural striker, making it questionable to deploy him in that role alone.
Alejandro Garnacho – 8
He was lively and focused, showing no signs that transfer rumors regarding Chelsea affected him.
Based on this impressive display, it would be unwise for United to let him go.
