
Mkhondo (Piet Retief) – Tragically, Jabulane Collen Ndlovu, a 46-year-old traffic officer from Mpumalanga, lost his life in the hospital after being struck by a speeding minibus taxi that he attempted to signal for stopping.
The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison has expressed its deep sorrow over the passing of the traffic officer.
This unfortunate event occurred on the N2 highway in Mkhondo on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, provided further details, stating that Ndlovu was hit while “attempting to stop the taxi” as part of a speed enforcement operation.
According to Mmusi, the taxi was traveling from Ermelo towards Piet Retief when it failed to stop and ran over Ndlovu.
After suffering severe injuries, Ndlovu was promptly taken to a medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Expressing that this tragedy could have been avoided if the law had been adhered to, Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, urged drivers to “comply with the directives of any law enforcement officer.”
MEC Macie conveyed her condolences to the grieving family of the traffic officer.
The police are currently investigating a case of culpable homicide, although no arrests have been made thus far.
