Johannesburg – Eskom is preparing to reduce load-shedding to Stage 2 beginning tomorrow morning.
In a concise announcement issued late Monday (24 February 2025), the power provider declared: “Stage 4 load-shedding will persist until 5:00 AM on Tuesday.”
Eskom further explained: “Following that time, load-shedding will be adjusted to Stage 2 until further notice.”
“This decision comes after successfully recovering eight out of ten generation units, with 3 808MW restored from units that tripped over the weekend, and an additional 1 146MW anticipated to be recovered overnight.”
Eskom emphasized that while the recovery of emergency reserves is encouraging, further replenishment is essential to reach adequate levels.
“These positive developments mirror our ongoing efforts to stabilize the power supply and improve reliability,” stated Eskom.
“Currently, unplanned outages total 13 690MW, exceeding our summer outlook’s base case of 13 000MW by 690MW.”
“Ongoing planned maintenance is presently at 7 245MW, aligning with our summer maintenance strategy, which is heightened to prepare for winter and adhere to licensing and regulatory obligations.”
