Durban – In a tragic turn of events, church members traveling from Richards Bay to Shakaskraal have lost their lives due to a tyre burst on their bus, which subsequently veered off the road and rolled down an embankment.
KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma reported that the devastating accident occurred on Sunday, March 9, 2025, on the N2 highway between Mandeni and Stanger.
MEC Duma confirmed that “unfortunately, at this moment,” the fatalities include five females and one male.
He added, “The response team is currently working with the Mandeni Traffic Department, Emergency Rescue teams, and SAPS to assist the injured.”
“We kindly request motorists to avoid the area to facilitate the rescue operations,” MEC Duma emphasized.
“This bus tragedy has struck just as we were finalizing our Road Safety Plans for the upcoming Easter Holidays.”
MEC Duma expressed his condolences, stating, “We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims.”
He also mentioned, “I and our newly appointed Chaplain will coordinate visits to the families of those who have passed.”
