
Durban – The number of church members who lost their lives in a bus accident on Sunday along the N2 between Mandeni and Stanger in KwaZulu-Natal has tragically risen to seven.
The church group was traveling from Richards Bay to Shakaskraal when the bus suffered a tyre blowout, leading it to veer off the road and roll down an embankment.
KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma stated that this unfortunate event took place on Sunday, March 9, 2025, on the N2 between Mandeni and Stanger.
Earlier, MEC Duma remarked, “sadly, at this point,” the fatalities include five women and one man.

“Our team is actively working with the Mandeni Traffic Department, Emergency Rescue teams, and SAPS to assist the injured,” MEC Duma indicated.
“We request that motorists avoid the area to help facilitate the ongoing rescue operations.”
“This bus tragedy has occurred just as we are finalizing our Road Safety Plans for the Easter Holidays.”
Moreover, Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesperson for the Transport and Human Settlements MEC, confirmed: “The number of fatalities has risen to seven.”
MEC Duma further conveyed: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families affected by this tragedy.”
“Our newly appointed Chaplain and I will be coordinating visits to the families of those who have lost their lives.”
