International rugby returns to Bloemfontein as Georgia’s national team faces off against the Toyota Cheetahs on 12 July, just a week prior to their Test showdown against the Springboks in Nelspruit.
This will mark the second occasion that the Georgian squad tours South Africa to take on the Free Staters at the Toyota Stadium.
Rian Oberholzer, CEO of SA Rugby, stated: “Georgia requested an extra match during their visit, and there’s no better rival than the Toyota Cheetahs, who are right in the middle of their season.”
“We anticipate an extraordinary event for the Cheetah supporters and rugby enthusiasts in Central South Africa, giving our guests a solid warm-up before their encounter with the Springboks.”
Rory Duncan, CEO of the Free State Cheetahs, expressed his eagerness: “We are excited to welcome Georgia to Toyota Stadium for what is sure to be an exhilarating match. This presents a wonderful opportunity for our fans to experience top-tier rugby in Bloemfontein.”

“Facing Georgia will be a significant test for the Toyota Cheetahs. The team is ready for this challenge, and we are eager to measure ourselves against an international opponent.”
Richard Cockerill, a former England hooker and the current head coach of Georgia, also shared his excitement about the upcoming match.
“Competing against the Cheetahs will provide us with a great opportunity to prepare for the Test against the Boks,” said Cockerill, who previously led England before taking charge of the Lelos.
“Bloemfontein is a fantastic place for rugby, and the Toyota Stadium is a superb venue. We look forward to challenging ourselves against a significant rugby nation.”
The clash between the Boks and Georgia on 19 July at Mbombela Stadium will be the concluding encounter in the Castle Lager Incoming Series, which kicks off with two Tests against Italy on 5 July in Pretoria and a week later in Gqeberha.
