The JMPD further indicated that the law enforcement team proceeded to a second site where a suspect, believed to be the shooter and identified via CCTV footage, was arrested while in possession of a handgun thought to be the murder weapon.
A hijacked Toyota Urban Cruiser associated with a Bramley SAPS case was also found on the property.
“During questioning, the suspect revealed that Officer Mbambo’s service weapon, taken during the tragic incident, was with his younger brother at the Lawley Station Informal Settlement,” said the JMPD.
“Continuing their efforts into Thursday, April 17, 2025, the team moved to the Lawley Station Informal Settlement.
“There, another suspect was apprehended, and Officer Mbambo’s service firearm was recovered, although its serial number had been removed.
