Nkanyiso Shinga, the recently signed left-back for Kaizer Chiefs, is excited to express his enthusiasm about becoming a part of the prestigious Soweto club.
The 24-year-old player, who has spent the last seven years playing abroad, was signed from Alverca in Portugal. During his time there, he participated in 22 matches and played a crucial role in helping the team gain promotion to Liga Portugal, the premier league in the country.
Originally from Durban and a product of the respected KZN Academy, Shinga mentioned that joining Chiefs marks the realization of a long-held dream.
“It truly feels like home here, as I have always aimed to play for this team. I understand the challenges that lie ahead, and wearing this jersey comes with its own set of expectations,” he remarked.
“I am filled with gratitude and optimism, and I am committed to giving my all for this badge. Representing this team has been a lifelong goal, and I strive to help bring trophies home, as my love for this club runs deep.”
Shinga will encounter stiff competition for the left-back position, with the likes of Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane, and new arrival Paseka Mako from Orlando Pirates all in contention.
Nonetheless, Shinga is confident in his skills and believes he can make a meaningful impact on the team’s success.
The young defender was also impressed with the performance of his teammates during their preseason tour in the Netherlands, where they played five matches, securing one win and four losses.
Shinga took part in nearly every game and acknowledged the potential within the team.
“My teammates possess incredible talent, which I witness daily in training and matches,” he stated.
“I believe we have what it takes to fulfill our aspirations. There’s an energetic vibe, and I find it easy to learn and connect with the team.”
Shinga and his teammates will kick off the 2025/26 season against Stellenbosch on August 10 in the Betway Premiership at Athlone Stadium.
Prior to this match, the Phefeni Glamour Boyz will face Asante Kotoko from Ghana in the Toyota Cup at Moses Mabhida Stadium next Saturday.
