Gavin Hunt, the head coach of Durban City, has disclosed that his team showed interest in Nigerian defender Collins Nwoburuoake, but it seems the player has now joined Orlando Pirates.
Nwoburuoake, who previously played for Abia Warriors in Nigeria, had been training with Durban City, and images of him with the team gained significant traction on social media.
Recently, the 20-year-old was observed training with the Soweto Giants at Rand Stadium in preparation for their MTN8 final against Stellenbosch at Mbombela Stadium this Saturday.
When asked about the situation, Hunt expressed uncertainty. “I’m not sure. He is with Pirates, isn’t he? Pirates,” Hunt said after his team’s 2-0 win over Siwelele FC on Tuesday, which secured Durban City’s fourth position in the Betway Premiership standings.
“I don’t know what the situation is. I’m unsure.”

The Unclear Transfer Status
Despite Hunt’s comments, a source has indicated to Sportswire that Nwoburuoake has ceased training with Pirates and has returned to Durban City.
In addition, Nwoburuoake is listed in the Durban City lineup that recently triumphed over TS Galaxy 2-0 in their season opener, although he did not take part in the match.
With the PSL transfer window set to close on September 22, it is still uncertain where this promising Nigerian defender will eventually land.
