Shibarium has restored the Plasma Bridge for the BONE token mere weeks after a network breach that allowed attackers to steal over $4.1 million through a flash loan attack.
Summary
- Shiba Inu has reactivated the BONE Plasma Bridge after a temporary shutdown.
- The breach, which resulted in the theft of $4.1 million, involved an attacker obtaining 4.6 million BONE.
- Post-exploit, prices of SHIB, BONE, and KNINE saw a decline in September.
The Shiba Inu team has officially confirmed that the Plasma Bridge for BONE on the Shibarium Bridge is back online. According to a blog update, this release includes enhanced blacklisting features to improve ecosystem security.
“We’re thrilled to announce the Plasma Bridge is up and running again for BONE, following a thorough security review and several upgrades. Users can now bridge BONE between Ethereum and Shibarium in a more secure and robust manner,” the Shib team stated.
What’s new for the Shibarium bridge?
The reactivated platform features a “proactive blacklisting system that empowers us to identify and block suspicious addresses at the bridge level,” as mentioned in the announcement.
This blacklisting functionality aims to counter potential future attacks and reduce exploitation risks within the ecosystem.
Moreover, Shibarium has instituted a 7-day withdrawal delay for all BONE Plasma withdrawals. This delay acts as a protective buffer for operators and security teams, granting them time to observe and respond to any unusual activity. This measure strengthens security while ensuring user access.
“The strength of Plasma lies in its fraud resistance. This delay enhances that trait and provides a timely response opportunity should any anomalies arise,” the platform remarked.
Shibarium hack
The Shiba Inu (SHIB) community endured a severe breach when an attacker seized 4.6 million BONE tokens during a significant hack targeting Shibaswap and the Shibarium Bridge. This incident took place in September 2025, resulting in a theft of around $4.1 million.
Stolen assets included $1 million in Ether, $1.3 million in Shiba Inu’s SHIB, and over $717,000 in KNINE.
The swift actions of the Shib team helped mitigate further losses. After an initial suspension, the developers successfully brought the bridge back online, focusing on security in the new implementation.
