Atlanta – Bafana Bafana staged a thrilling comeback to secure a 1-1 draw against Czechia, with Teboho Mokoena converting a late penalty in the second half.
Although Mokoena picked up a yellow card and will miss the next match, his impactful performance made up for it.
Czechia opened the scoring just six minutes into the match, courtesy of an unexpected goal from Michal Sadilek, who hadn’t found the net for his national team in three years.
To advance, Bafana must win against South Korea in their final group match, despite being without their suspended star, Mokoena.
At present, South Africa is at the bottom of Group A.
Mexico leads the group with 3 points, South Korea also has 3 points, Czechia sits on 1, while Bafana has just 1 point.
South Africa’s chances of progressing to the knockout stage are still alive, albeit slim.
