Johannesburg – The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has aimed to clarify the confusion regarding the arrest warrants issued for General Dumisani Khumalo and Major General Nosipho Madondo.
This misunderstanding stemmed from a brief statement released by the NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) on Thursday, 18 June 2026, addressing “reports about the arrest of the head of crime intelligence”.
The IDAC’s concise statement acknowledged media reports concerning the arrest of the Head of Crime Intelligence, General Dumisani Khumalo.
Spokesperson Henry Mamothame stressed: “We would like to make clear that General Khumalo has not been arrested, nor has anyone else from the Crime Intelligence unit.”
After IDAC announced that the execution of the arrest warrants would be postponed, lawyers for the senior police officials expressed concerns about potential damage to their clients’ reputations.
On Friday, 19 June 2026, the NPA explained that, due to the crucial responsibilities assigned to the two senior officers, IDAC decided to delay the execution of the arrest warrants until their duties were fulfilled.
To clarify matters, NPA spokesperson Kaizer Kanyago remarked on Friday, 19 June 2026, that he “noted additional reports circulating in both mainstream and social media following the IDAC statement released on 18 June 2026”.
Kanyago stated: “These subsequent reports are both misleading and speculative.”
He confirmed that arrest warrants had been issued solely against General Dumisani Khumalo and Major General Nosipho Madondo, with no other members of the South African Police Service implicated.
“The two individuals were contacted by IDAC investigators to report to the Brooklyn Police Station on 18 June 2026,” Kanyago clarified.
“Upon reaching out to the two officers, IDAC gathered information indicating that they were part of the Justice Crime Prevention and Security cluster team charged with preparing a national security measure related to immigration issues before and on 30 June 2026.
“To ensure efficiency and coherence in the team’s work, IDAC opted to postpone the execution of the arrest warrants until the two officers completed their assignments.”
Kanyago further noted that the officers were later informed they were no longer required to report to the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria.
“Any unrelated information regarding the arrest of other officers aside from these two should be deemed false,” the NPA spokesperson added.
