DA Dunoon Candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe Tragically Killed During Voter Registration Weekend

Cape Town – Sinovuyo Dyokwe, the Democratic Alliance (DA) candidate for the Dunoon Ward 104 by-election, tragically lost her life on the inaugural day of the Voter Registration Weekend.

Sinovuyo was shot on Saturday, 20 June 2026, while heading home from the voter registration site after dedicating her day to registering and re-registering DA voters.

In light of this heartbreaking incident, the DA declared that it was “saddened and outraged by the murder of our Dunoon Ward 104 candidate and community advocate, Sinovuyo Dyokwe.”

The DA extended its “deepest condolences” to Sinovuyo’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Remembered for her bright smile and spirited personality, Sinovuyo significantly contributed to broadening the DA’s voter base in Dunoon and became a respected and influential community activist.

“Constituency Head Nicholas Gotsell is collaborating closely with the South African Police Service to ascertain the circumstances of the event,” the DA disclosed.

The DA has also organized counseling services for Sinovuyo’s family, friends, and colleagues.

The DA highlighted that it is “carefully monitoring the situation” and will advocate for justice on behalf of Sinovuyo’s loved ones.

In remembrance of the late activist Sinovuyo, the DA said: “Thank you for your unwavering dedication to the DA.”

“Your commitment and sacrifices will forever be treasured.”

“Rest in peace, Sinovuyo.”

Meanwhile, ActionSA has set aside political differences to express condolences to the family and friends of the deceased DA candidate.

“We are holding Ms. Dyokwe’s family in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”

“We ask that God grants them comfort and strength as they face this tragic and senseless loss.”

ActionSA called on the police to take swift action to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

“We stand in support and solidarity with Ms. Dyokwe’s family and loved ones, as well as the DA, her colleagues, and supporters, as they mourn her unexpected passing,” stated ActionSA Cape Town Spokesperson Stephan Gerber.
